2020 has been a tough year for everybody around the world. With the unexpected emergence of COVID19, the world almost suffered measurable financial and emotional trauma but Visakhapatnam-based interior designer and entrepreneur Ameet Mirpuri says otherwise. “Yes, it’s slowed us down from time to time, but thankfully be it visibility, clientele or the amount of work in our kitty, Design Studio has had its best year yet” he said.
When the first lockdown brought with it some level of anxiety, he responsibly shut office considering the well being of his employees. Forward looking the ambiguity in those tough times, Ameet comforted his staff by providing necessary equipment at their homes so that work doesn’t halt for long. This ensured they worked throughout the lockdown only with improved efforts and therefore better results.
Talking on how effectively Design Studio utilised the lockdown months, he said “ Our administration team worked on a lot of skill sharpening seminars for our team which greatly impacted knowledge building. I was the spokesperson for few seminars and somehow that got us through the lean period where most of our hospitality projects had come to standstill.
The residential projects, however, continued as the lockdown was lifted”. Design studio has around 400 projects in its basket till date. They worked with luxury hotels like Novotel, Radisson and the like, and various luxury and semi-luxury cafes and restaurants in Hyderabad, Goa, Mumbai, Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada.
Ameet never looked at the tough times for one moment with negativity but considered that break as an avenue of new possibilities. Welcoming the change, he is looking forward to another year of doling out good, creative work with fresh innovative ideas.
Started in 2002 with just 2 people out of their garage office at home, Ameet’s Design Studio now has a full-fledged office with a team of 40 senior and junior designers, and admin and project staff. Talking about what motivates him in getting this far and growing every day, he says “I love it.. there’s no other answer”. He works like he’s on a holiday, with his extraordinary sense of color and design, keeping in mind the expectations of the clients vibe.
