For many people, mental health isn’t as important as physical health, mostly because signs of its deterioration aren’t as prominent. People fail to realize that making sure you’re emotionally fit will keep you physically fit, too!

Here are 5 keys to mental wellness and emotional fitness:

1. Be physically active

I know, I know. Who wants to be active when they’re depressed and can’t even get out of bed? But exercise has been proven to have a positive effect on our mental health. It might not cure depression, but it can make you feel good about yourself and that’s very important when you’re feeling down in the dumps. Don’t worry if you’re not in the mood to lift weights, a simple walk is enough to keep you healthy and fresh.

2. Connect with other people

Meaning is often found in the company of other people. We’re social creatures and can’t survive without others. Learn to connect with those around you so you can feel a sense of belonging. You’ll have people in your life you can share your thoughts with and they can act as emotional support. Spend more time with your family and friends, try to get to know them better so you can connect with them on a deeper level.

3. Learn to forgive

Forgiveness is essential. You’ll never get rid of all that anger and resentment in you until you learn to forgive those who have wronged you. Forgiving someone doesn’t mean that you let them off the hook or justify their actions, it only means that you accept there’s nothing left for you to do but to move on. For the sake of your peace and mental wellness.

4. Acknowledge your dark side

Accept your negative feelings and emotions so you can figure out how to get rid of them. Acceptance is the first step to fixing anything. Once you’ve accepted them and acknowledged that they’re causing problems, you’ll be able to talk about them with others and find out why they exist in the first place.

5. Learn to live in the present

Don’t be sad over what happened in the past and don’t dread the future. Pay attention to what’s happening around you now, in the present moment. You can never be happy if you’re constantly thinking about the future or the past. Look at everything around you and accept it as it is. Only then will you be able to live a life where you feel emotionally fit.

Mental wellness is important! The creators of Boom Journal are aware of that and that’s why they believe their app will help you become a better version of yourself. Record your emotions in the app so you can figure them out and understand yourself better!

The journey to becoming mentally fit is a tough one, but if you stay committed, you’ll start seeing positive results very soon!
