6 Steps to Grow a Six Figure Content Business

Content is king — right? Yet, most people are unaware of how to create powerful content others can’t wait to consume that allows you to build an audience of raving fans.

From there, the sky is the limit and you can monetize your knowledge, expertise, and passion by creating products and services around what your audience wants.

In this post, I’ll share the step by step process thousands have used to create profitable businesses through the creation of powerful content people can’t wait to consume in addition to what to make sure to avoid along the way.

1. Find your expert topic and passion

Your topic is a combination of what you’re knowledgeable and passionate about. Think of the things you love learning, researching, and talking about — and that your social circle goes to you for in times of need.

Many times people underestimate how much knowledge they have in one field because it’s easy and routine for them.

When I started building Resist Average Academy, my knowledge was in the field of mindset and human behavior while my passion was in teaching.

Next Level Tip: Don’t immediately think of what can be monetized. Truly identify your expertise and what lights you up, or your business won’t last.

2. Find your unique differentiator

Sweet, you’ve got your topic of expertise and passion — now what?

You’re going to find a way to distinguish yourself and stand out in a crowded marketplace. You don’t have to re-invent the wheel, you simply have to have one core, unique differentiator.

For example, JP Sears had immense knowledge in spirituality with an expertise in teaching — while adding comedy and humor as his differentiator.

Next Level Tip: This is where your unique personality traits are allowed to shine — amplify what makes you…well, you.

3. Pick your pillar platform

Should you have a blog, be on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, and Pinterest?

Maybe eventually — but doing so from the start is going to exhaust and scatter you. Instead, pick one platform which I call your core “pillar” — this is where you’re going to plant your flag and build your core audience base.

For the Academy, it was all about the podcast. While I love being on video, I chose to podcast because of the blend of skills I already had, and because my content was deeper and was likely to be appreciated on that platform.

I put all my energy, intensity, skills, and focus on creating the best possible podcast.

Next Level Tip: Picking one platform is very hard for people. Think of where you shine best. I could have chosen video or writing, as I love both — but instead, I went with podcasting. Pick yours!

4. Build your tribe

Here’s where dedicated consistency is going to pay off. You’re going to publish content on the regular and turn people who have never heard of you to raving fans.

How? By putting out quality work, consistently, over and over again.

Start to gather your tribe so you can give them a more personal touch through a free offering — a Facebook group, a newsletter, etc.

Next Level Tip: This one requires patience, and is where most people fade away. They don’t see immediate results, so they disappear. Make sure that you start to gather your tribe and don’t give up because you don’t see immediate results.

5. Create and monetize.

Everyone wants to go here first — yet that’s entirely the wrong approach.

Let your audience tell you what they want. Maybe it’s a membership site, live events, coaching and consulting, speaking, books, physical products — the list goes on and on.

Next Level Tip: Listen to the core problems your audience keeps coming back to solve — and create solutions around that.

6. The 12-month principle

Well, there you have it. If you follow the above I have no doubt you can create a six-figure business by simply creating content around what you already love.

However, a fair warning: if you want to build a content-based business to make tons of cash out the gate, you’re in the wrong space.

This will require patience, consistency, talent and quality work.

Stay patient, play the long game, and if you’re dedicated from the start, you’ll see results – in the long run.
