Put Up or Shut Up: How to Cut the Crap and Succeed in Business (and in Life)

Life doesn’t hold back for anyone, not for you or me. The hustle, the grind, the grit: these are just the fees to participate in entrepreneurship. Sometimes you’ll get hit so hard you’ll forget how to breathe. However, the best thing you can do is stay aware of the fact that all will not always go as planned. Massive awareness gives you control over the situation.

Bedros Keuilian, a best-selling author, speaker, and the founder and CEO of Fit Body Boot Camp, believes that society needs to man (or woman) up and push through any difficulties without being afraid. In fact, he literally had to eat out of trash cans to stay alive in his earlier days. Now, he has over 700 franchise locations worldwide. Now, he is on a mission to reach as many people possible.

This Industry is Not for the Light Hearted

Your shoulders will get heavier and it will seem as if the world is only pushing you closer to the center of the earth. Sometimes, people have this mentality where they think time is going to fix their problems and so they do absolutely nothing.

The truth is that time waits for no one. It doesn’t wait for someone’s problems to go away. Those who don’t wait tend to take action, which is the better solution since it gets you moving and makes the issue active, rather than letting it sit and allowing the circumstance to potentially grow and get worse.

According to Bedros, “Action alleviates anxiety. I don’t care how small your actions are or even if the actions you take turn out poorly – you just need to do something.”

You can’t allow the problems and issues to push you around. You need to learn to be strong-minded. And I use him as an example because who among us hasn’t experienced massive struggles? We all have, but some of us have had it a bit harder. It is easier for these folks to throw in the towel, and in some cases, we wouldn’t even be surprised.

It just proves that when you have the excuses to stop, the strongest don’t. They refuse to get stuck in the emotions, the drama, the panic, or anything else when they easily could.

This is why I have often said:

You Cannot Be a Leader if You Could Easily Be Broken

The stories of leadership that we hear come from people who have endured what we can’t imagine.

Think about it. You never hear a story of a memorable leader who had a mediocre life, who wasn’t challenged in some way.

A person’s confidence and drive can quickly be smashed into pieces if they’re too weak or they’re too sensitive. Those very same individuals will probably use every excuse in the book as to why they are not able to get past certain challenges. It’s so much easier to stop your momentum and pull the plug on what you have been striving for than it is to figure out a way through the obstacles.

How will you define yourself and your leadership?

As the leader, it is your responsibility to shoulder the burden if your team isn’t doing what they’re supposed to. You run the ship, not them. Take responsibility for your life and your business and you’ll find yourself taking control of situations instead of letting them control you.

The Biggest Names Have the Biggest Problems

Billionaire Richard Branson’s first magazine hit the skids, and then he discovered the mail order discount record business, launching Virgin Records. J.K. Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter series, was rejected 12 times before her idea made her a billionaire. Can you recall being rejected during certain moments of your entrepreneurship, wanting to throw your hands up and move on? But what if you kept going to bring your innovation to the market?

Everyone is striving for the same thing: to be the best in their industry. Although, some people don’t recognize that this can also be a curse. That’s why very few come out on top. Some cannot handle the pressure, but that’s exactly why everyone needs to learn: to take the hits and keep pushing.

Multiple businesses have failed, partnerships have flopped, and so many of the struggles go unseen. It’s bound to happen in the journey of entrepreneurship. However, when you keep a level head in times of crisis, you can build a massive empire. And the secret behind reaching those goals? Never ever give up on your dreams, no matter what comes your way.
