Canadian native Oliver Spezza, better known as his artist name Spezzo, has had a passion for music since the age of 4. From an early age he was influenced by Tiesto, a dutch DJ who over time has become a household name in the electronic music scene and was named “the Greatest DJ of All Time” by Mix magazine. The likes of Daft Punk, Above and Beyond, and Swedish House Mafia have also inspired his sound.
Spezzo never expected to become a DJ. At the age of 17 he discovered other influences such as Avicii and Alesso; this was during 2011-2012, which some people refer to as the “golden era” of EDM music. Knowing that he loved music, Spezzo decided to give it a shot himself. He bought FL Studio and began producing without any prior knowledge. It was the beginning of a long journey for the young creative.
During his come up as a musician, Spezzo has faced challenges of staying confident in his ability to make good music. At first, Spezzo’s peers doubted him, and most didn’t support him. He began to question his vision but knew he wanted to pursue his dream of becoming a household name in the electronic music scene. “We’re constantly influenced by peers trying to tell us what is and what’s not good for our own being,” said Spezzo. “I waited way too long before I finally listened to my heart and did what I truly wanted in life. I was always a puppet trying to please everyone. You’ll only betray yourself to keep this pattern going around until you finally decide on your own reality.”
Besides being a kinesiologist and massage therapist during the day, Spezzo has continued pursuing his passion. 3 years from his initial debut on all streaming platforms, the Canadian artist has had a very busy 2020, releasing 12 tracks so far this year. Among those releases are “Dance For Me” and “Dawn”, both of which have been streamed over 50,000 times on Spotify alone. 2020 is still not over for Spezzo, as the artist plans to release a new single called “All I Want” later this month.
