Instead of looking at the entire mountain of progression, focus on one day’s to-do list before thinking about the next day. Setting small fitness goals and making them part of your daily routine will help you reach your goals faster than expected.
Practicing being present goes hand-in-hand with taking things one day at a time. It is a thought process that requires a continuous focus on the here and now. It takes time to train the brain to stay away from the past or future, but when you think of it in terms of the present, a workout will appear much more enjoyable. For those who struggle with mentally being present, try focusing on breathing when your thoughts start to wonder.
Keep it Spicy
Changing your workout routine will help you avoid boredom, which often leads to a lack of motivation or interest. At the beginning of your fitness journey, there is a lot of excitement around new workouts and healthy foods to try. People who sustain this excitement are more likely to make a long-term change to their lifestyle.
It is common for fitness trainers or instructors to push participants on as they muscle through a workout. Trainers might tell clients to slow movements down if need be, but do not stop or take a break. That mentality is also key to maintain workout perseverance. Even on days when exhaustion sets in and working out seems too much, never quit moving. Trying to push through a regular session is excellent, but it is also beneficial to slow down and burn a few calories through light yoga or walking.
Dress for Success
The comfort of athletic wear makes it an easy purchase. Buying a new outfit to wear while working out can be the right motivation to get back into the workout groove. It inspires you through enthusiasm and confidence.
Quit the Comparison Game
Comparison can lead you down a dangerous mental path. Everyone is unique, and harmful negative thoughts can stem from comparing yourself to others. Bodies respond to exercise in different ways, so two people doing the same routine will not see the same results. Factors such as body fat percentage, body type, size, diet, and metabolism come into play with any exercise plan. Eliminating any thoughts of comparison will give you a refreshing new perspective.
