Erica Barry’s new Guide Shows Content Creators how to Achieve Digital Success

Erica Barry has been drawn to digital media since the early days of the Internet. Growing up, she watched early YouTubers like The Lonely Island, Jenna Marbles, and Colleen Ballinger rise to fame online.

In high school, she began posting recipes, essays, and photos on an online food blog that she designed, and she quickly built an audience online, got brand sponsorships, and drew hundreds of thousands of page views.

This experience opened Barry’s eyes to the power of digital media and she’s been fascinated with the power of the medium ever since. That’s led the media professional to her latest endeavor, an upcoming book called Don’t Wait, Create: How to Be a Content Creator in the New Digital Revolution, which is being published by New Degree Press in late August.

Barry provides a roadmap to digital content creation and finding one’s creative voice in the new book, while also showcasing the success stories of entertainers like Tiffany Haddish, Andy Samberg, and Issa Rae.

These stars and others have helped turn YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, and similar digital platforms into a hub of creativity for filmmakers, actors, writers, comedians, and performers, and Barry wants to show aspiring content creators how they can also successfully enter those spaces.

“In the past, you had to fit into a narrow box defined by Hollywood to get your content seen and monetized,” Barry explains. “The content that we consumed, the celebrities that we admired, and mainstream pop culture as a whole, were all defined largely by invisible gatekeepers. However, the floodgates are now open for all types of content to enter the mainstream.”

Actress, writer, and producer Selina Ringel, who has embodied the mantra of “don’t wait, create” throughout her career in the entertainment industry, wrote the foreword to Barry’s book. She says: “As a creator, it’s hard at times to believe anything will work. It’s incredibly time-consuming, anxiety-producing, and it will expose your vulnerabilities.

That being said, Erica’s book will show you how other people have created their content and catapulted their careers into the stratosphere by doing it.”

“No longer do you have to wait to be discovered, wait for a callback, or wait to tell your story,” Barry says. “You have all the tools you need to create your own body of work right now.”

Actress Becca Bastos, who has amassed over a million followers on TikTok for her impression videos says: “As an actress, creating content has been extremely empowering and critical in jump-starting my career. I recommend Don’t Wait, Create to anyone who is ready to take their career into their own hands and unleash the power of creating opportunities for themselves.”

Barry wants to help new creators by showing them how to enter the digital world, find and grow an audience, and make digital content creation an integral part of their own success stories.
