Finding the right makeup shade and skincare products can be a huge hassle, but the challenge is even more significant for people with darker skin tones or specific skin types. One model turned entrepreneur struggles to find suitable products for her skin to create more inclusive lines.
It’s no secret that the beauty industry leaves a lot to be desired regarding makeup and skincare products. It is often difficult for people to find makeup and cleansers that meet all their needs. Owner of WENmedics, Wen Giwa-Osagie experienced roadblocks firsthand, like finding the correct shade of makeup when she was working as a model. It was hard to find makeup in shades for darker skin, so she took it upon herself to change the game.
Creating the change, she wanted to see
By working with other professionals in the industry, Wen Giwa-Osagie created a new, one-of-a-kind makeup line. The goal was to solve the problems that she encountered herself when looking for her makeup. With the help of a chemist and a professional laboratory, she came up with nine pressed powder shades and six cream-to-powder formulas specially made for dark skin.
These products are what initially launched her company in 2004. But makeup was not the only thing she struggled to find. She also realized that she needed to take better care of her skin and set out to create what she wanted in those products.
Wen Giwa-Osagie combined her experience in IT product development with her dream of providing better quality skincare products and got to work. “I am a driven, ambitious, and natural leader with entrepreneurial prowess, and my background in product development across multiple industries propelled me to bring new innovative products to the market,” she said. She began by creating products for herself and her family. The goal was to develop products that treated a variety of skincare issues. She wanted products to address aging concerns, skin types concerns, and more.
Catering to all skin types with natural ingredients
After a lot of trial-and-error, her skincare line WENmedicswas born. What makes the skincare line different from others is the variety of products that cater to all skin types and the ingredients they’re made of. Each product contains plant-based nutrients that have been tested and scientifically proven to be effective.
Multiple skin concerns are addressed by using a single product, eliminating the need for dozens of different items. Customers don’t need to worry about harsh ingredients, like those found in other beauty products.
”In an industry saturated with a variety of concerning ingredients in its products, my products are plant-based, antioxidant-forward, and focused on eight different ‘Nos,” she said.
