Google’s Allo is a highly-anticipated new messaging app that is finally available for download for Android and iOS phones. What makes this a standout is the app is also debuting its artificially-intelligent Assistant.
While it may be difficult to comprehend why the search engine giant wants to launch another messaging app, but perhaps it wants to compete with Facebook’s Messenger, WhatsApp and iMessage on iOS 10. Plus, this app is focused on Assistant, which will be core the the company’s plans around upcoming products.
In addition, the bot has a cosmic easter egg inspired by “2001: A Space Odyssey.” You can chat with Assistant, and get information through a conversation. Similar to WhatsApp, you sign in with a phone number. Your Google account is then synced so that you can use Assistant on the upcoming Google Home and Pixel phones.
