Maulana Azad always wanted India to achieve a higher literacy rate and extend scholastic scope by improving the elementary and higher education of the country.

Maulana Abul Kalam Azad also started the University grants commission that hosts various educational programs for the students. With the foundation of UGC, Azad wanted every student to attain education in whichever study mode they want to.

In 1947 after being convinced by Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad took the role of Education Minister and practised the party till 1958 until his death.

As Education Minister, Maulana Azad established various institutions such as the All India Council for Technical Education, Institute of Higher Education, University Education commission, Secondary Education commission Jamia Millia Islamia, and IIT Kharagpur.  Throughout his life, he worked for the promotion of education in the country.

Importance of Education

One of the fundamental ways for every citizen of the country to grow is to be educated. The Government of India understands the importance of education, and therefore it is also one of the fundamental human rights.

Every person has the right to education irrespective of gender, caste class, and region. How can we expect human assets to grow if they don’t have sufficient knowledge? We all know that the states and countries that have higher literacy rates progress faster. With proper education, people can have tons of opportunities to explore.

Therefore the government has taken all the necessary steps to make people aware of the importance of getting an education. But apart from that, the government has also taken significant steps to ensure that every citizen of India can avail of education more easily.

Education is crucial for the progress of the overall country, but it also plays a significant role in the growth of an individual. Therefore education becomes essential for every gender. Maulana Azad also believed that education is the birthright of every citizen, and for everybody to progress, it is a necessary element.

The theme of National Education Day

The only thing that comes with education day is the importance of education. The Ministry of HRD organizes various events to celebrate the national education day and the birth anniversary of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad.

With national education day, the government majorly focuses on the areas that lack education. For example, the government always tries to promote the education of women, the importance of vocational education, literacy in backward classes and much more.

Every year, the government plans to start something new in the educational sector that focuses more on modern sciences and contemporary teaching methods.

Celebration of Education Day

The growth of the educational sector is primarily because of the great personality of Maulana Azad.  On education day, various Institutions and governments organized events to commemorate this day and the efforts made by Maulana Azad for the promotion of education in the country.

Different schools and colleges organize events such as quizzes, debate, speech poster making, and essay writing competitions.  The government also organizes various seminars and workshops to impart modern teaching techniques in the teaching community.

The lack of education prominently exists in rural areas, and therefore rallies and campaigns are done to make people aware of the importance of education. Free books and pamphlets are distributed so that children can study at home on their own as well.

Various people who have done significant work in the betterment of the education sector are awarded on this day.

Summing Up

Education is the essential tool that can improve the condition of the country and individuals. Due to a lack of money and other resources, people do not send their kids to schools.  However, due to government initiatives, the literacy rate of India has increased significantly in recent years.

It is the citizen’s responsibility to understand the importance of literacy and make other people aware of the significance that education holds in everybody’s life. Education day is the best day to remember Maulana Abul Kalam Azad and his beliefs regarding the educational sector of India.
