In our day-to-day life, we find it really hard to stay productive every single day. There are days when we slip off and at the end of the day, we blame ourselves.
Staying productive is all about getting all your work or chores done on time and feeling satisfied. You have to understand that taking time off and giving your mind and body proper rest is important.
According to Tamas Boruah “Being productive every single day is a myth”. This is because there will be days when you are not doing well and there will be days when you just do not feel like doing anything.
But staying productive on the other hand is not impossible and can be achieved by cultivating some good habits.
If you are someone who is struggling to stay productive throughout the day then you have come to the right place.
Ways to stay productive all day are:
#1 Start Your Morning Right
After you have got your 8+ hours of sleep, it is time to get your body moving. Try incorporating workouts and meditation in your morning or evening routine. I cannot stress enough the importance of health in your life. It is really important to get your body moving and that you work out thrice a week at least.
Working out will keep your mood lifted and give you the boost of energy to work properly throughout the day. Meditate every day whenever you are free or at the time you want to. This will help you calm down your mind and get rid of stress that may be distracting you.
You will only understand the difference working out and meditation makes when you start doing it. Do not over-indulge yourself with caffeine. Have it moderately. Do not let it affect your sleep cycle by going heavy on caffeine.
Instead, opt for a healthy breakfast option that will keep you feeling satiated.
#2. Keep Track Of Your Work Hours And All The Work That Needs To Be Done.
Checking off your list of daily work is another level of satisfaction. Maintain a record of how long you will be working. You can do this by sorting out your day’s work one day prior and calculate roughly the time it will take to get all of it done.
This will help you manage your time and also get all the last-minute work done thoroughly.
#3. Always Remember To Take Breaks.
Being productive does not mean exhausting yourself till you are all done with your work. You need to take small breaks in between your work to make sure you do not overwork yourself. It may be a quick water break, grabbing a snack, even meditation or stretching yourself for a few minutes.
This will increase your work efficiency when you are back to work feeling more energized.
#4. Limit Your Distractions.
Put your phone on silent or DND when you want to work undistracted. This will be particularly helpful if you have the habit of checking your phone every now and then out of habit. Statistics show that more than 70% of people get distracted by their phones while working.
So, take one step at a time and divide your task into smaller tasks to get it done easily. Try listening to songs while you work to get your mood lifted and also to stop yourself from listening in on what is going on in the background.
Multitasking is a total myth. Please do not fall into such temptations. You might think multitasking will get your work done faster, it may do so but it will decrease the quality of your work overtime.
#5. Positive Reinforcement Is The Key.
If you fail to complete your task on time or you do not have it in you to work today then please rest yourself. Do not beat yourself up for failing to complete your work or for being unproductive. You are human and it’s okay to let go sometimes.
Instead, give yourself a pep talk and reward yourself for all the things you have achieved so far. This will boost your confidence and will help you work better the next day. Blaming and punishing yourself will only lead you to think poorly of yourself. Take rest, take the day off, do something you love and enjoy doing.
Prioritize your health and needs first and only then you can be productive throughout the day. Prepare your next day’s schedule and you will be good to go.
It is undeniably true that the feeling that comes after completing all your daily work is incredible. But you also need to keep in mind that you are not a machine that can work tirelessly for days or that can be productive for days without any end.
I really hope this was helpful for you and that you are encouraged enough to incorporate all these things in your work life starting today onwards.
We are all in this together and we have been there. I know how bad it feels when you fail to meet deadlines but it is quite okay and normal because you are not alone in this.
Take your time but do not just take this as a habit to laze around doing nothing. You need to hold yourself accountable for all that you do but kindly treat yourself with love and care.
Hoping that starting today, we will all be productive equally with a stress-free mind.
