Hunter Johnson is a computer prodigy turned overtly successful entrepreneur. In fact, he’s become quite prominent throughout the digital space for his skills, which have earned him the nickname, “the dark prince of the internet.”
So, what does that mean? Well, Hunter first rose to success as a 13-year-old when he designed an online game that became a viral hit. By 20 years old, he had over 1 million users playing his game, made half a million dollars, and racked up over 50 million YouTube views on influencer advertisements.
As he approached adulthood, Hunter made a shift in his career that would skyrocket his career and ultimately, his life. He left his stable job as a hedge fund manager and entered the information aggregation industry. Shortly after, he created an algorithm to compile everything on the internet about a given person.
This includes social profiles, past addresses, phone numbers, emails, criminal history, and even interests. He now provides this as a service. The result? His information aggregation services net him over 700k a month in subscription revenue.
Of course, this kind of success doesn’t come without its challenges. According to Hunter, “the biggest challenge when entering these fields of business is simply how complex the computer science is behind systems like this. Had I not been programming for 10-plus years prior to attempting to break into this space, it is unlikely I would have been so effective.”
Despite the hardships and hiccups along the way, Hunter continues to remain at the top of the information aggregation industry. In fact, Hunter feels that he is in a league of his own, and many of his competitors would probably agree. We’re sure to see much more from him over the next stages of his life and career. So, what does his programming business have to do with your business? His best piece of advice for other entrepreneurs might supply you with the motivation you need to finally pursue your dreams.
Hunter says, “the only thing stopping most people from succeeding is getting started.”
Yes, Hunter “started” at a young age; however, he eventually changed his path completely and was rewarded with wild success and fortune. The moral of the story is, if you’ve had an idea in your mind that you’re extremely passionate about, the most important thing you can do is take the first step towards bringing your idea to life. You don’t need to do anything drastic or over the top, either. It’s all about the small, consistent steps that build you up over time.
For Hunter, the journey to financial success and personal fulfillment took years and years of experimentation. An advanced internet algorithm doesn’t happen overnight, after all. Take the time to plan what kind of business it is that you really want to create. Then, simply start. You never know where it might take you. “Without a bit of risk, there is guaranteed to be no reward.”
