In Conversation: Daniel Shapiro, Fashion Innovator

The fashion industry is both relentless and unforgiving.

To make your mark amongst thousands of budding designers, you need to come up with something innovative. Most people would associate innovativeness in fashion with something ‘quirky.’ Daniel Shapiro, however, went with something that’s very rarely (if ever) been considered – fashionable athletic wear for men.

Why Men’s Athletic Wear?

You might think fashionable athletic wear has been done before, but the truth is that fashionable or stylish wear for men going to the gym, going for a race, etc is rarely ever addressed. You’ll find half of the guys at your local gym wearing the same gear or just throwing on something they designated for the gym themselves. 

While pro-athlete gear is different, it’s rarely (if ever) made to look attractive for men. Again, the idea seems like it’s been addressed, but it really has only been dabbled into by fashion brands before they moved onto the next project. 

Fortunately, as of 2020, the new fashion-athletic wear brand by founder Daniel Shapiro, has given men something they had been missing in stores. Every design is engineered to be everything athletic wear should be plus a statement in its own right!

Style and Versatility

After working as a designer for fifteen years, Daniel Shapiro realized that the one market brands weren’t concerned with was fashionable athletic wear for men. While durability, endurance, resistance, and such were key selling points for men’s athletic wear, the word stylish was hardly ever used.

In 2020, he created his own brand which centered around producing premium athletic wear for men with a focus on both improved performance and style. The company is based in New York City and, while only being founded this year, has made appearances in magazines, such as Runners, Today, GQ, Men’s Health, Gear Patrol, Men’s Journal, and Esquire. From being referred to as editor’s, “favorite new apparel brand,” to being called, “looking as good as it performs,” suffice to say the brand by Shapiro accomplished all that he had set out to do.

Start Before You’re Ready

The one thing that Shapiro made sure of when creating his company was that neither style nor improved performance would outweigh the other – a common concern for men’s athletic wear. Instead, both factors would go in conjecture to give men what their clothing brands lacked.

As the founder of one of the most renowned premium wears athletic brands, Shapiro had to make sure every article that left the warehouse was made impeccable. Hence his focus on craftsmanship.

Every one of his designs is thoughtfully created and engineered to give athletes, gym-goers, or just the average guy a comfortable, stylish, and versatile performance apparel option.

His trademarked caption, “Start Before You’re Ready,” pays homage to the fact that all great athletes need to seize the moment by being better than the next guy. This mindset drives them to push through their limits and discover all that they are capable of doing.

Therefore, the gear you put on when you set out to achieve those goals has to reflect on that mindset. Your appearance shows your determination, it also shows that you’re serious, and you’re in it for the big prize.

“Start Before You’re Ready” means seizing all that you set out to do, accomplishing your goals, and being the best version of yourself.

So, the next time you hear the name Daniel Shapiro, think back to that guy running in the morning wearing athletic wear you hadn’t seen before. Odds are Shapiro might have designed it.
