Influencive: The Kane Bailey Interview

Kane Bailey sits down with Time Bulletin to tell all about his rise, the artist he admires and how Covid 19 affected his career

  • If you could go open a show for any artist who would it be?

Like I said before, any of those artists would be crazy, especially Drake. But I would be glad to open for any artists that has a buzz and would be a good experience for me.

  • What is one message you would give to your fans?

Well first I would never call them fans, I use the word supporters. This is because fans to me sounds like I am above or better than them, which is not true, they just enjoy the music I make. But I would tell them that I appreciate all the love they show me, and that I have really big things coming for them.

  • What is the most useless talent you have?

I can make really good Goat noises, which is very random. Funny enough though it actually came up in the studio one day, and we realized it was helping me sing a specific note. I know that doesn’t make sense but you just had to be there to understand.

  • What would you be doing right now, if it wasn’t for your music career?

I would be doing something with social media because I’ve always been good at and have a passion for it. Although I am a rapper, I gained 140+ thousand followers on tiktok in less than a year. I take that following and help promote my music which is very helpful.

  • Where have you performed? What are your favourite and least favourite venues? Do you have any upcoming shows?

I actually have not had the chance to perform yet. I had a few opportunities at places in the past like the popular Bossa Lounge in Toronto, opening for Lb Spiffy. I declined the offer because up until now, I didn’t feel ready to do a show.

My music has now been taking to another level, and I am confident enough to do performances. Unfortunately we are now in a pandemic and that won’t be happening for a while.

  • How do you feel the Internet has impacted the music business?

The internet has done good, and bad for the music business, and I would say more good than bad. I will say, it does give the wrong people attention who are only in it for the clout, but it also is great for things like promotion, connecting with your followers, and talking to fellow artists on the same grind as you.

  • What is your favourite song to perform?

I don’t have a favourite song to perform as I have not performed yet, but  favourite song that I have made so far is definitely my new one Hollywood.

Instead of taking the safe route and making a song I knew everyone would like a bit, I made one that I myself would listen to on repeat, and hope other people like it too.

  • Which famous musicians do you admire?

I really admire Drake because he is a guy that grew up in the suburbs of Toronto, similar to me. He started as an actor, also same as me, and then slowly became the biggest name in music. About a year ago I was on set for a commercial, and

The director was the director on the set of Drake’s show Degrassi. He said I remind him a lot, and told me some cool stories about him.

  • What is the most trouble you’ve ever gotten into?

I wouldn’t say I have necessarily gotten into any HUGE trouble before. Probably just things at school as a kid, or getting into trouble with my cousins as kids.

  • What is the best advice you’ve been given?

My mom has always told me, if you want something in life, you have to go and get it, you can’t wait for it to come to you. This is very true for any situation in life whether it’s chasing a big dream, or applying for a job at the grocery store.

  • If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?

I would say they need to look out for the artists more, when it comes to percentages and money. They also need to look out for underground artists more.

Record labels love to jump on the artists that have a hit song, but the ones grinding behind the scenes goes unnoticed. Sometimes all they need is a little push from a label, and they can be that next star.

  • What’s next for you?

I plan one taking my music to the next level with every drop and growing my name more and more. I never like to talk about my game plans, but I’ll just say Kane Bailey will be a household name around the world in no time.

  • Has Covid 19 affected your career in any way?

Yes, it definitely has in a good and bad way. Throughout quarantine I truly had no inspiration to make any songs. I ended up taking a whole year off. During that time though I was able to get a plan for my music together and explore new sounds that I wanted to end up trying.

I feel like of covid wasn’t a thing I would have travelled for music already, and film a music video in a different country. I also would be doing shows in Toronto
