Something groundbreaking is happening in the freight industry. Disruption is about to happen in one of the largest and oldest infrastructures in the global economy.

Recently, I had the opportunity to share the stage with several high profile entrepreneurs at the Live to Grind event in Los Angeles. The event featured a blockchain panel with parts of the team from ShipChain. If you haven’t heard of this startup yet, buckle your seatbelt.

What is ShipChain?

ShipChain is an innovative startup utilizing blockchain technology to solve the most significant problems in transport and logistics—a trillion dollar industry.

The ShipChain platform addresses core challenges within the industry. Tracking, accountability, and communication within the industry are all in need of change. The platform creates an ecosystem of trust well overdue in the transport and logistics industry.

I first learned about ShipChain’s mission a few months ago and knew I had to pay attention. The founding team consists of John Monarch (CEO), Brian D. Evans, and Sami Rusani. While also boasting the likes of Kevin Harrington (Original Shark on Shark Tank) and logistics industry titan Roger Crook (Former CEO of DHL Global Freight Forwarding) as team members and advisors.

Without a doubt, ShipChain is backed by a first-class team and I’ve grown to know several members of the team, and there is one, in particular, I wanted to highlight.

Meet Sami Rusani, a serial entrepreneur, blockchain advocate/investor, and talent manager.

Sami Rusani

Sami Rusani, Chief Revenue Officer, ShipChain

Rusani has worked with some of the biggest brands in the world including Sony, Fender, Virgin, Universal Music, Ogilvy, Heineken, VISA, and Mercedes. He has also advised international companies and negotiated trade deals on their behalf.

What Makes Sami Rusani So Extraordinary?

The first thing you’ll notice if you ever meet Rusani in-person is that he stands tall at 6’9″—but there’s lots more to him that you will discover than just his tall stature. He currently serves as the Chief Revenue Officer of ShipChain so I asked Rusani to describe his role, he shares with me that the Chief Revenue Officer is responsible for all revenue generation in a company. In the ShipChain organization, it means that he leads all business development, sales, customer relations, product creation, pricing strategies and anything else that creates revenue.

He says, “Marketing is, of course, a big part of it as well, so I’m working very closely with our Chief Marketing Officer, Brian D. Evans.”

Besides being ShipChain’s Chief Revenue Officer and a revolutionary leader, Rusani has intangible qualities that make him stand out in a crowd. Here are 3 traits that make him so extraordinary.

  1. Ability to communicate and educate with full presence and transparency. Anyone who is at the forefront of disrupting a trillion dollar industry and still finds time to educate those around him—while remaining enthusiastically upbeat—deserves to be acknowledged. One of the most common traits I’ve noticed among industry disruptors is that they care deeply and passionately about the communities they serve. Innovative leaders are great at enrolling those around them in their vision. They surround themselves with the brightest and most talented thinkers who work together as a team—for the good of the whole. Without a doubt, Rusani fits this description perfectly.
  2. Enthusiasm for cryptocurrency and the blockchain. While many have heard the terms Bitcoin and cryptocurrency being floated around—many do not understand that the real driver behind the hype is the blockchain. The blockchain is the technology and data structure behind the rise of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies like Ethereum. Rusani is one of the few who guided me and so many others on a journey down the rabbit hole and into the world of cryptocurrencies and blockchain. He helped me understand that we are in the very early stages of what will be a whole new foundational structure for the internet.
  3. Charisma and ability to command a room. Maybe it’s his background as a musician or his experience as a talent manager—but one thing is for sure. Rusani has a presence that makes you want to listen to him speak for hours. He’s extremely knowledgeable in his expertise yet welcoming in his approach and demeanor. When you’re around him you’ll instantly feel comfortable asking questions—knowing his friendly attitude aims to support and not discourage. It’s very clear that Rusani enjoys being around people and helping to educate in any way he can.

What Is the Revolutionary Movement?

While it may appear intimidating to hear about yet another technology such as the blockchain—here is what you need to know. What you are witnessing is the development of a movement. “Blockchain and cryptocurrencies are not just technologies; this is a movement, a revolution! It will change the world as we know it,” says Rusani.

New system structures are being built shifting industries away from centralization and towards decentralization. It means opportunities to simplify complex business processes and transactions, allow for greater transparency and trust between parties, provide higher security across systems, and provide banking access to some of the poorest regions in the world.

ShipChain is offering a real-world solution to a real-world problem using the blockchain. Rusani and the team are at the forefront of this revolutionary movement and this is only the beginning.

If you’re feeling behind or lost in the world of all things cryptocurrency and blockchain, don’t be. We’re still in the very early stages. As Rusani suggests, “If you’re interested in becoming a part of the conversation search Google, attend Meetup groups—there are many good resources. It’s a friendly and welcoming community.”

Or even better, how about checking out the dedicated section right here on Influencive for all things Blockchain related.

When I ask what drives Rusani every day, he says, “The goal to be a better man than I was yesterday. Business goals, personal goals, family, and friends. It may sound cliché, but I’d like to help make this world an even better place than it was when I arrived.”
