The term “maintenance work” is doubtlessly linked with the word “expensive” for most business owners. And although it usually costs quite a bit of money to do maintenance work on something – whether it’s electronic equipment, your car, or your home – it could save you a lot of money in the future.
As a general rule, you will usually save money in direct proportion to how expensive it would be if the thing you’re maintaining were to break down. Therefore, given the great risks of having the roof, plumage, or walls of an office building fail, you would save yourself a lot of trouble and cash by taking care of these before they fail. Roofs serve a number of purposes. One is to provide a surface that lets rainwater flow off the building. The other is to provide insulation from the sun and protect the building from strong winds. Because of this, roof renewal is not only cheaper than putting down a completely new roof; it will also extend the life expectancy of the roof by at least 15 years, as well as make it look completely new.
Plumbing maintenance work is another important thing you should invest in for your office building, for several reasons. First, it ensures that the inside of your building is always clean. Secondly, it protects the health of the people who work in the office by making sure there are not any harmful bacteria or mold spores in the air. Thirdly, it makes sure that you won’t have problems with clogged pipes that could lead to overflow, and thereby, moisture damages.
Some companies, like Avon Ruby in the UK, and most likely a local plumber in your own area, offer plumbing maintenance packages for their clients so that they can get all these benefits without having to worry about hiring a cleaning company or taking care of plumbing maintenance themselves.
Post-insulation is the third point on our list. If your office building is more than 30 years old, its insulation is likely to be outdated. If you then don’t do post-insulation, you might be looking at additional energy costs that rack up to thousands of dollars over the years. And while it’s true that it does cost some money to hire someone to insulate the walls anew, you’ll save money over the long haul.
While you might not be completely convinced of post-insulation, you should know that it is not just an energy efficiency measure; it’s also a safety measure. The insulation that is installed on the exterior walls provides an additional layer of protection against fires, in addition to sealing out water vapor and keeping it from condensing inside.
What’s common to all of these three points of maintenance for office buildings, is naturally that you will save money by not waiting until the point where they fail. But perhaps more importantly: if you do them, they will contribute to the safety of your staff – and if you don’t, you might be putting them in harm’s way.
