Like many of us, Dr. Mani Kukreja never expected to lose a loved one to a preventable disease. But when her father — who was diabetic with an autoimmune disease – passed due to complications with a compromised immune system, she set out on a mission to help others avoid the same fate.
As a medical doctor, Dr. Kukreja had spent over a decade conducting clinical research on heart disease, cancer and other diseases. Seeing the studies’ results, she realized how quickly the health of affected patients deteriorated, as well as how certain interventions might have controlled their diseases and prevented fatalities.
Dr. Kukreja became determined to help others forestall disease, rather than attempting to cure it at later stages. While many organizations focus on medicines and treatments, she believed that functional and holistic health experts can best educate people on the factors that influence their health and well-being.
These include consuming nutritious foods, managing inflammation and stress, exercising regularly, getting enough sleep, nurturing relationships, and boosting the body’s immunity to fight infections.
Accordingly, she spent two years obtaining her education from Nutrition & Healthy Living from Cornell University, Advanced Functional Nutrition from Mind Body Green, and Holistic Nutrition and Health Coaching through the Institute for Integrative Nutrition (IIN).
Her passion and expertise led her to form her practice Livagewell, which offers a more holistic approach for her clients.
Meanwhile, her father struggled with health problems and experienced kidney failure. After receiving a kidney transplant, he was on immunosuppressive drugs. As a result, he endured recurrent bouts of infections.
One of these led to septicemia. This infection caused his second kidney to fail. Two days later, her father passed away.
“In October of 2018, I lost my father due to complications from immunosuppressive drugs,” said Dr. Kukreja. “He suffered from lack of immunity. This shook me to my core. I decided then and there that I would dedicate my life to supporting others in preventing disease before it’s too late.”
Now certified as a holistic and integrative nutrition health coach with her own business, Dr. Kukreja spent the majority of 2019 building Livagewell into a fully integrative health and wellness platform.
Offering a full-range of programs and consultations to health-conscious individuals and organizations alike, she quickly became accustomed to seeing her clients both in person and over Zoom. This gave her an advantage at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in March of 2020.
“When the pandemic began, I shifted my attention to developing my 21 Day Immunity Reset course,” said Dr. Kukreja. “I spent most of 2020 creating the content for this course before launching it in January 2021.”
Customers can buy Dr. Kukreja’s course (which lasts three weeks) online. Once purchased, the materials belong to the customer forever.
In tune with her certifications as an IIN health coach, Dr. Kukreja’s class sets what food customers should purchase to achieve their individual goals, explains how to boost their bodies’ immunity, and includes a 21-day meal plan with recipes.
Over the course of her entire career, Dr. Kukreja had always found it tragic that people were contracting preventable diseases – many ultimately succumbing to them.
Since experiencing the impact this can have on family and loved ones firsthand, she has dedicated her career as an integrative nutrition health coach to being a source of hope. She wants to show how anyone, regardless of their background, can live a better, healthier, and more holistic lifestyle.
“If you know how to live your life in a healthy way that complements a nutritious diet, enough sleep, regular exercise, and stress management, then your immune system is strong,” Dr. Kukreja adds. “That means you can fight off most infections.”
