A TikTokker who started his account as a side hustle reveals how he now makes $15,000 a month – but the success comes with a dark side as he receives “death threats”.
Jonathan Peter (@iamjonathanpeter), 21, joined TikTok in February 2020 and now has 1.5M followers – and counting.
The young man first started his social media career as a side hustle but was soon making enough money to turn the hobby into his full-time job.
He now reveals how he is cashing in from the site and the challenges he has faced along the way.
“I was never academically strong as a child but I knew my passion for the arts would take me far in life and as a result of that I was always ambitious,” Jonathan told Jam Press.
“I started my account as a side hustle to make more money.
“I now have three income sources from the app, which make me on average $15,000 a month.
“I make $200 to $1,000 from going live on TikTok, then between $3,000 to $10,000 a month from something called the TikTok Creator Fund [where the platform pays users to create content].
“On top of that, I earn $5,000 to $15,000 for brand collaboration posts.
“Tiktok has a currency in the form of gifts. You use real money to buy these ‘gifts’.
“Each gift is worth a certain amount of money; a ‘present’ being worth the least and a ‘luxury candle’ worth the most.
‘When your fans send/donate you these gifts, you can use them to withdraw money.
“So in other words, you convert the gifts back into real cash.
“The TikTok Creator Fund was launched to pay creators in the same way YouTube does.
“You need to have over 10,000 followers and 100,000 views in the past month to be eligible to join.
“Then Tiktok pays you a certain amount of money per video, it depends on how well your video performs.
