In the history of National Defense Academy since its beginning it is the first time where a Bhutanese cadet has been awarded the Commandants Silver Medal for being the best rider from the passing out course. Cadet Quarter Master Sergeant (CQMS) Jigme Pelden Dorji a foreign cadet from Bhutan of the 140th passing out course of National Defense Academy was awarded with the medal on 27-05-2021 by the commandant during the Academy dinner night.
Out of 370+ cadets, he has proved the highest in merit. He has been awarded with half blue in riding and polo, Spur recipient in riding for showing exceptional display and performance as a horseman, a lead role in the Equitation display of the end of term, the captain of Academy team riding, captain of the battalion polo team and brought gold medal for his Battalion polo match conducted on 03-03-2021 and also led the musical ride which was instituted for the first time in NDA AT-20.
Not only in terms of riding but during his tenure in NDA he was a merit cardholder in physical training, Battalion commander motivational award, athletics medalist and recipient of the recognition badge for being the first foreign cadet in the team.
He has opened the gates and opportunities of his country towards equitation making his country proud. He is the proud son of Pema Zam from Bhutan and was an alumnus of Ugyen Academy from 2015-2017 under the guidance of Principle Norbu Gyeltshen the Commandant of Ugyen Academy.
