Meet the Man Behind Digital Gurukul: Dr. Raj Padhiyar

Dr. Raj Padhiyar would love to celebrate his recently completed digital training in Pakistan – His 1st cross border training experience where he received mammoth response & officially opening doors to expand Digital Gurukul to UAE region. But this is not the end. With the lofty goals that he has set for Digital Gurukul, Dr. Raj Padhiyar is quite convincing when he says: “I’m going to get back beyond UAE, World awaits for us.”

Nearly 5 years ago when Padhiyar began his maiden corporate journey with Yes bank as an associate after passing out MBA from Welingkar College and a year later leaving the high paying job & deciding to launch a startup, this was unimaginable.

But in the last few years, he has come to believe in the mindset of Indian students. “We are just in initial phase of Higher Ed revolution in India,” he says. Indeed, t he higher education sector in India consists of 3.74 crore students across 993 universities, 39,931 colleges, and 10,725 stand-alone institutions & after all these – what is the final outcome? We all know.

After studying B.com at Mumbai’s Narsee Monjee College, Padhiyar decided to Master MBA with Welingkar Institute of Management where he Interned with 3 companies – Yes Bank, Mahindra Finance & Croma retail. Around the same time, Padhiyar started exploring dynamics of Digital world by taking freelancing projects from friends.

“I was a horrible student,” he recalls. “My attendance was merely 2% But i started developing my passion for Digital world around that time but there was a catch! It took 2 years to actually launch Edtech startup – Digital Gurukul.

“Edtech is quite different from rest of the segment in India.. Here – your customer (students/parents) treat your startup as a temple to magically transform their life(career) once you take their prasad (course).” says Padhiyar

Unlike many first time entrepreneurs in India, it wasn’t hard for Dr. Raj to convince his family. “Mom said the worst thing that will happen is that you will be leaving us in this age ,” Padhiyar recalls.

Dr. Raj Padhiyar, 31, was born into a OBC Darji Family where their primary profession is of tailoring In Mumbai. His wife Mayuri Padhiyar is also Certified Digital Marketer from Digital Gurukul interestingly she joined as a student of Digital Gurukul & year later she became life partner of Dr. Raj Padhiyar.

Padhiyar uses his spare time to share his knowledge and mentor other entrepreneurs and firming up his own convictions about the Indian internet ecosystem.
