Summer
During the summer months, Icelanders get as much as 24 hours of daylight, making it the most popular time of the year to visit, especially if you’re an outdoor person, because of the longer days and the pleasant weather. Also, this is the time to get in many outdoor events like hiking, sightseeing etc. The summer solstice is 21 June, and it’s as if the sun never sets because even for the three hours that it appears to do so, it’s never really dark.
So if you’re a light sleeper planning to visit Iceland around summer, you should not forget to bring an eye mask.
Winter
The winter, or as many like to call it, “a vampire’s delight,” is the direct opposite. During the peak winter solstice, you would get about four hours of daylight. This works better for people who prefer indoor activities and nightlife.
Nightlife
The infamous bubbly nightlife of the Icelanders is another reason you should consider a trip to Iceland. During winter, Iceland might be the perfect city for insomniacs, caffeine lovers, and alcoholics. Iceland, especially its capital city, Reykjavik, is full of many cafes, bars, pubs, and clubs usually open until late at night. Hence, it’s not surprising to find people spending all night in town.
Safety
Aside from all the fun you’re bound to enjoy in Iceland, your safety is guaranteed as Iceland is a very safe place. It has an almost nonexistent crime rate, and you’re less likely to face any other artificial danger. However, the more common threats you’re likely to face are nature, road safety, and unpredictable weather. Icelanders take their road safety rules seriously, and as long as you obey them, you will be fine.
