Robert Simon Explains Why You Should Start Your Own Firm and Join Justice HQ

Founding partner of Simon Law Group and founder of Justice HQ, Attorney Robert Simon has been practising law for over 15 years. In 2009, he started his own firm and never looked back!

After scaling his private practice to over eight figures a year, one of his greatest passions is mentoring young attorneys and providing them with the same resources, guidance, and technology that helped him get where he is today.

What do you say to someone who’s looking to start their own firm?

Robert Simon: Just do it. Some many attorneys tell me that it’s not the right time for them, but guess what? It’s never the right time. So just do it. I started my own firm only after a few years out of law school and a mountain of student loan debt. Do I regret it? Absolutely not. It was one of the best decisions of my life.

If you’re on the fence, think about this. You have complete control over your life. If you can understand what makes you happy as a lawyer and as a person, and set out to achieve it, then you’ll have a happy life.

For instance, some people just want to be expert writers. Others want to work from anywhere, and some just want to try cases, some like business law, while others want to be general. It all depends on what you want to do. The beauty is at a private practice.

You can position yourself as a specialist in the area you want to be part of. In a big firm, you may not have that luxury. You may have to do the discovery process where you manage the written questions and send documents back and forth between the clients. You may never see a trial. Sure, you get paid well, but to me, that’s a miserable life.

I like doing expert depositions and trials and beginning cases. Bottom line—there’s a path for everyone in what you desire.

Why should someone consider joining Justice HQ if they’re looking to start their own firm?

Robert Simon: Members of Justice HQ have a lot of resources at their disposal. A membership cuts done on your overhead. You can develop relationships, collaborate with a community behind you. It’s essentially an à la carte law firm to use anytime.

You can co-counsel and split your earnings with other lawyers. You can work as much or little as you choose. You’re able to have your own brand and make real money doing what you’re truly passionate about. Everyone should be doing this. You’ll also be surrounded by like-minded people all the time, which will help you become better at business, become a better human, care more, and grow.
