The Power of Compassion; How Dr. Rednam Balances 3 Separate Worlds

HOUSTON, TX For many people who devote their time to help others, plastic surgery is a calling. That being said, there’s no doubt that Dr. Rukmini “Vinaya” Rednam is one of them. I had the honor of speaking with her about the dedication and compassion that led her to becoming an expert in her field.

Between leading a highly-skilled medical team, being the matriarch of her home, and managing multiple social media accounts, Dr. Rednam balances quite a few things. But with her unconditional compassion to make people happy, what may seem challenging to others comes much easier for her.

There are many interesting things about Dr. Rednam, but there’s one thing in particular that stood out to me during our discussion; Her ability to connect her family-oriented ideals to the workplace. As much as the board-certified surgeon values her career, nothing is more important to her than family. She’s a wife and mother of two beautiful toddlers (ages 1 and 4). “Family is the most important thing to me. It is the fundamental core of everything I do. I consider my patients to be an extension of my family. If I treat people this way, then I’ll never end up on the wrong path.”

We all know that maintaining both a work and personal life is essential. And at times, it isn’t very easy. For Dr. Rednam, having a supportive husband helps to keep her balanced in the most positive and healthy way. “I’m lucky to have a supportive husband who makes it possible for all of this to work.” Dr. Rednam said in our extensive conversation—along with a special shoutout to her parents who have supported her since day one.

The My Houston Surgeons Practice is where Dr. Rednam her patients. At the practice, while everyone works together there are individual teams made up of nurses, medical assistants (MAs), physician assistants (PAs), patient coordinators and more that all work together to create the best patient experience. Dr. Rednam’s team is constantly expanding, bringing in more members over time to best serve her patients.

In addition to that, Dr. Rednam is proud of her all-female team, consisting of bright and strong women who bring a dynamic element to the office. While many teams are present, they work as a united front, andare equally devoted to what they do. She makes it clear that using the word “we” when speaking with her patients brings light to the fact that it’s a team effort.

“Prior to surgery, whenever I talk to my patients, I always say ‘we’. Because it’s not just me. It’s all of my team. All of us are helping people heal.” she mentioned. This attitude is what makes her team so likable, and the reason their practice continues to grow by the day.

Dr. Rednam has proven herself to not only be likable at work and home, but in the most popular way, too; social media. That’s right, she’s a social media influencer—as if taking care of a family while being a top-ranked surgeon isn’t already fascinating enough. Her noteworthiness has gained her a considerably large following on apps like TikTok, Facebook, and (especially) Instagram. She utilizes the apps to highlight areas of her work and homelife—allowing her audience to experience her versatility firsthand.

Amazingly, this wasn’t where it all started.

Like many of us, Dr. Rednam is no stranger to social media. In 2018, she started a mini-YouTube series called “Dr. Rednam Girl Talk”, where she would sit down with her co-workers and discuss various topics regarding plastic surgery. Many women found the videos helpful, and she was able to grow her business significantly because of them.

When I was speaking with her, I could sense genuine compassion. No matter if she was discussing her children, team members, or her supporters, her smile remained potent.

Dr. Rednam’s enthusiasm led me to ask her what she loves most about being a plastic surgeon. She told me she finds gratification in seeing her patients come back after their surgery for their first post operative appointments. “My favorite moments are when my patients come back for follow-ups and they say ‘Oh my gosh, it’s better than I imagined it would be!’

At the end of our conversation, the Houston-based surgeon sent a special shoutout to her family, team members, followers and patients—who she looks forward to seeing more of in the years to come!
