By now, most of us use social media to some extent or at least understand how it works; you set up an account on a platform and then post content or interact with the content of others. Social media has, for the last few years, been an integral part of human life, from politics to entertainment.
Despite all the benefits that we have enjoyed from social media, it certainly has its downsides, the biggest of which have to do with user data. Again, most of us know how social media operates and this includes knowing, on some level, that our data is being controlled.
When you sign up for a social media platform, you surrender some of your data, including sensitive information provided at login or posted to the site itself. The controversy in this comes in how the site uses this data.
There is the very real possibility that it will be sold to advertisers or used in creating targeted ads for you both on and off the platform. Social media users have suspected this for years and incidents like the Cambridge Analytica scandal all but confirmed it.
Then there is the issue of having your account possibly removed. In the beginning, the setup was that users would only have their accounts removed if they posted illegal content. Now, it is routine for social media users to have their accounts banned for posting politically incorrect content that is not actually illegal.
All these are a result of centralized social media platforms that are focused on monetizing by all means. Internet users have grown fatigued by the actions of these types of sites and out of this has emerged a demand for decentralized social media, which Floyx is here to deliver.
What is Floyx
Simply put, Floyx is a social media platform that allows users to connect to one another and share content. On the surface, this sounds like every other social media platform in the world, but Floyx has a bit of a twist to it.
Leveraging the power of blockchain technology, Floyx is a fully decentralized platform. This means that not only is user data not stored on a centralized platform but users’ online identities are safe from unfair removal.
Unlike a centralized social media platform, user data is not kept in a single database or on a single server. Doing this means that the site is less prone to attacks and hacks. If the database of a major social media platform was attacked, the information of millions of users would be compromised immediately.
Floyx users do not need to simply hope that their data is secure because it leverages a decentralized system that gives each user control of their data. In both the physical and virtual sense, the user data is scattered all over the world and there is no central bulk that can be attacked.
Floyx has also taken drastic steps to make sure that users’ place on the platform is secured. It is not unusual for social media users to wake up and find that their accounts have been deleted by the sites they use. With Floyx’s user data being decentralized to this degree, this does not happen.
At the same time, some precautions have been put in place to ensure that illegal or even harmful content is not freely posted on the site. These include a reputation system, which is the basis for designations for published content. It is the community that decides which content breaks the law and should be pushed out of public view into a separate category. This means that any user navigating Floyx will not have to deal with toxic and negative users of the site.
Finally, the users of the site will have a major say in its development. Using a Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO), users can make suggestions about new features and changes to the site and can also vote on potential ones.
A Decentralized Landscape
The old centralized way of social media might have formed the foundation for what we now know but the flaws in it are too big to ignore. From the centralized storage of data which is a ticking time bomb to the consistent removal of accounts that borders on censorship, the social media experience is being tainted for all.
This is why Floyx’s entire setup addresses these core concerns and solves them with blockchain. By giving the user full control of both their online presence and data, Floyx is providing them with an experience that is both authentic and also more secure.
