If believing in yourself and paving your path to success could inspire others, then Philadelphia-born, Bessie-Lee Cappell, would be a pioneer in setting the example of what breaking barriers can look like.
One of seven siblings, mother of three, Inventor and patent owner of the Brush Bib, and owner of Baby Bottle Brush Bib Company, Bessie Lee-Cappell joins many other Black Women in history who became inventors, with only a few owning patents in baby products.
Breaking barriers is not new for Bessie Lee-Cappell. She is a first-generation in many areas of her life. She was the first of seven children to graduate from high school, graduate from college, enroll in a graduate school degree program, and the only child to receive a professional license (social work). Bessie Lee-Cappell does not allow any barriers to stand in her way.
Her first invention, Baby Brush Bib, came to life to relieve her frustration as a mother washing bottle. Nothing was worse than washing bottles and the brush splashing water everywhere to include all over Bessie Lee-Cappell’s work clothing. Well, she found a way to remedy this. It’s flat, protective, silicone barrier that goes around the bottle brushes prevents splashback every parent face when washing baby bottles. Because of the material, they are lightweight, easy to clean, and even more so, each to store.
The savvy business-minded woman she is knew the importance of focusing on moms and dads, making the product available in both neutral and light colors. The decision to have a gender-neutral product line has become a standard in her company. 
Since her first invention, she has added other innovations to her product line, and it has caught the attention of reality television’s family, the Derricos. In the coming show’s season, her products will premiere on TLC’s Doubling Down with the Derricos.
